Risk of Incident Dementia in Adults with Heart Failure and Co-Morbid Depression Lead Investigator: Jodi Edwards Institution : University of Ottawa Heart Institute E-Mail : jedwards@ottawaheart.ca Proposal ID : 1367 Proposal Description: It is currently unknown if depression is a risk factor for the development of dementia in adults with heart failure. The goal of this project is to ascertain if there is an association between co-morbid depression and incident dementia in adults with heart failure. Due to the intricate link between heart and brain health, identifying specific risk factors for dementia such as depression in heart failure patients could allow for individualized care trajectories for individuals with comorbid disease, in addition to standard heart failure treatment regimens. The specific objective of the proposed research is to test the hypothesis that depression increases the risk of incident dementia in adults with heart failure.
